NT 47 Paul and Silas in Prison

Reference: Acts 16

Story Summary:
While on a missionary trip, Paul and Silas came to the city of Philippi. There they met a slave girl who had an evil spirit. It helped her tell the future to others and make her owners money.
The spirit made the girl follow Paul and Silas around and bother him. Paul commanded the spirit to leave in Jesus’ name, and it did. The slave girl’s owners were angry because their slave couldn’t make money anymore. They dragged Paul and Silas to the judge, who ordered the men whipped, beaten, and thrown into prison.
At midnight, Paul and Silas prayed and sang to God while chained in prison. God sent an earthquake, making their chains fall off and the doors open. The jailer thought everyone escaped, but Paul told him that everyone was still there. The jailer asked Paul what to do to be saved. “Believe in Jesus,” the men told them.
The jailer took Paul and Silas to his home and cleaned their wounds. He believed the good news of Jesus and his whole family was baptized.
