NT 38 Jesus Rises From the Dead


Reference: Matthew 28, Luke 24

Big Ideas and Motions: Jesus rose from the dead

  • Jesus - make a cross with your forearms
  • Rose - Gesture upward with both palms
  • Dead - cross your forearms in an “X’ over your chest


Verse and Motions: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 - “....Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day...” (ESV)

  • Christ - make a cross with your forearms
  • Died - cross your forearms in an “X’ over your chest
  • Sins - two thumbs down
  • Scriptures - pretend to open a book
  • Buried - pretend to dig with a shovel
  • Rose - gesture upward with both palms
  • Third - hold up three fingers


Questions to Ask Throughout the Week

  • Where was Jesus buried? (In a tomb, with a stone in front)
  • On what day of the week did Jesus die? (Friday.)
  • On what day of the week did Jesus rise from the dead? (Sunday.)
  • Who were the first people at the tomb? (The two Marys.)
  • What happened when the Marys went to the tomb? (An earthquake, an angel rolled the stone away)
  • What did the angel say? (Jesus has risen, Go tell his disciples.)
  • Who did the Marys meet on the way to tell the disciples? (Jesus.)
  • Did the disciples believe when the women told them Jesus had risen? (No.)
  • Who ran to the tomb to check it out? (Peter.)
  • When Jesus appeared to the disciples, who did they think he was? (A ghost.)
  • What did Jesus do to prove he wasn’t a ghost? (Let them see his hands and feet, ate a fish.)
  • What is today’s big idea? (Jesus rose from the dead.)
  • What is today’s Bible verse? (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 - “....Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day...”)

NT 36 Peter Denies Jesus


Reference: Luke 22:54-62

Big Idea and Motions: Believe in Jesus to be forgiven.
Believe - Pretend to grab a rope in front of you with both hands.
Jesus - Make a cross with your forearms
Forgiven - hold one palm facing up and pretend to brush something off that palm with the fingertips of your other hand.

Verse and Motions: ...forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. - Eph. 4:32 (ESV)
Forgiving - hold one palm facing up and pretend to brush something off that palm with the fingertips of your other hand
One - hold up one finger
God - point up
Christ - make a cross with your forearms
Forgave - same as above
You - point to another person

Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
Who was Peter? (One of Jesus’ disciples.)
What did Jesus say Peter would do? (Say he didn’t know Jesus three times.)
What happened to Jesus at the beginning of the story? (He was arrested.)
How many times did people ask Peter if he knew Jesus? (Three.)
What did Peter say to these people? (I don’t know him, I don’t know what you are talking about.)
What happened after Peter said he didn’t know Jesus the third time? (A rooster crowed.)
What did Peter do after Jesus looked at him? (Began to cry.)
Did Jesus forgive Peter for saying he didn’t know him three times? (Yes.)
What did Jesus do to pay our punishment? (Died on a cross.)
How can we be forgiven by God? (Believe that Jesus died and rose again for our sins.)
What is today’s big idea? (Believe in Jesus to be forgiven.)
What is today’s Bible verse? (...forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. - Eph. 4:32)

OT 72 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego


Reference: Daniel 3:1-30

Big Idea: Jesus came to save us from sin.

Verse: 1 John 4:14 - ...the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (ESV)

Motions for the Big Idea:
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Came - march in place
Save - make the baseball “safe” sign
Us - point to yourself with two thumbs
Sin - two thumbs down

Motions for the Verse:
Father - touch your right thumb to your forehead with the rest of the fingers pointing up1
Sent - pretend to push someone away from you
Son - pretend to cradle a baby
Savior - make the baseball “safe!” sign
World - draw a large circle in the air with your finger
1 This is the ASL sign for “father/dad”

Questions to Ask Throughout the Week

  • Who were the three friends in today’s story? (Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego/S,M.A.)
  • What did King Nebuchadnezzar build? (A 90 ft. tall gold statue)
  • When the music played, what were the people supposed to do? (Bow down, worship the statue)
  • What was the punishment for not bowing down to the statue? (Thrown in the fiery furnace.)
  • Did Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego worship the statue? (No.)
  • What did Nebuchadnezzar do when S, M, and A refused to bow? (Heated the furnance hotter, had them thrown in.)
  • What happened to S, M, A in the furnace? (Untied, not harmed, walking around with a fourth person)
  • What did Nebuchadnezzar say about S, M, A’s God? (No one can say anything bad about their God.)
  • What is today’s big idea? (Jesus came to save us from sin.)

Big Idea: God knows everything and can do anything.

Verse: Daniel 2:20 - Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. (ESV)

God - point up
Knows - tap your head
Everything - sweep your arms in a wide circle
Do - flex your muscles
Anything - sweep your arms in a wide circle

Name of God - point up three times (once for each word)
Forever and ever - draw a sideways “8” in the air with your figner
Wisdom - tap your head

  • Who was the evil king in today’s story? (Nebuchadnezzar.)
  • Who was taken as a prisoner by King Nebuchadnezzar, along with three friends? (Daniel.)
  • What did Daniel not want to do? (Become like Nebuchadnezzar’s people by drinking his wine and eating his food)
  • What test or experiment did Daniel want to do? (Eat vegetables and drink water for 10 days.)
  • After 10 days of veggies and water, how did Daniel and his friends look? (Healthier than everyone else.)
  • What happened to King Nebuchadnezzar? (He had a special dream.)
  • What did Nebuchadnezzar want the magicians and wise men to do? (Tell him his dream and what it meant.)
  • What does omniscience mean? (God knows everything.)
  • What does omnipotent? (God can do all he wants.)
  • What is today’s big idea? (God knows everything and can do anything.)

Big Idea: God punished Jesus for our sins.

Verse: Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (ESV)

Motions for the Big Idea:

Punished - swat your leg with your palm
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
