OT 30 The Ten Commandments


Reference: Exodus 20, 2 Peter 2:22

Big Idea: Only Jesus obeys God perfectly.

Verse: Romans 5:8b - ...while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (ESV)

Motions For the Big Idea:
Jesus - Make a cross with your forearms
Obeys - make a letter “O” with your arms above your head
God - point up
Perfectly - two thumbs up

Motions For the Verse:
While, we, were - make a “W” with your arm
Still - freeze, holding your body still
Sinners - two thumbs down
Christ - make a cross with your forearms
Died - close your eyes and hang out your tongue
Us - point to yourself

Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
  1. What is today’s big idea? // Only Jesus obeys God perfectly.
  2. Do you and I obey the 10 Commandments perfectly? // No.
  3. What does it mean to measure up to the glory of God? // To follow God’s commandments perfectly.
  4. Who is the only person who measured up to the glory of God? // Jesus
  5. Since we’re not perfect, what did Jesus do for us? // While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
  6. Name one of the Ten Commandments. // See Exodus 20 for a list.

Big Idea: To love God, obey his commands.


Motions for the Big Idea:

Love - hold your hands over your heart
God - point up
Obey - make a large letter “O” over your head with your arms
Commands - Wag your index finger as if instructing someone

Why did Moses go up the mountain? // To talk to God
What did God ask the Israelites to do? // Obey him completely.

What did people hear and see when God came down the mountain? // Thunder, trumpets, smoke, fire
What do we call the 10 special rules God gave Moses? // The Ten Commandments.

Big Idea: Don’t be afraid! God is powerful!

Verse: Jeremiah 32:27 - Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? (ESV)

What was the name of the water that the Israelites walked to? // Red Sea
What did God appear to the Israelites as during the day? // A pillar of clouds
What did God appear to the Israelities as during the night? // A pillar of fire
What did Pharaoh decide to do? // Chase after the Israelites
What did the Israelites do when they saw the Egyptian soldiers? // Cried out to God
What did God have Moses do? // Hold out his staff
What happened when Moses held out his staff? // God made the waters part into two.
What did the Israelites do when God parted the water into two? // They walked across on dry land.
What happened when the Egyptians chased after the Israelites? // The waters came back down and swallowed them up.
