OT 57 God's Covenant With David


Reference: 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 2 Samuel 7, Luke 1

Big Idea: Jesus is the king of everyone everywhere.

Verse: Philippians 2:10 - so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (ESV)

Motions for the Big Idea:
Jesus - make a cross with your forearms
King - pretend to put a crown on your head
Everyone - gesture your arms in a wide circle
Everywhere - place a hand above your eyes and look around the room

Motions for the Verse:
Name - point with two fingers on each hand; tap the right two fingers on top of the other*
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Knee - grab your knee
Bow - hold your hands up and bow as if in worship
Heaven - point up
Earth - tap the floor
Under the earth - pretend to dig with a shovel

OT 56 David Spares Saul’s Life


Reference: 1 Samuel 24 and 26

Big Idea: God loved his enemies, and so should you!

Verse: Matthew 5:44 - But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you... (ESV)

Motions for the Big Idea:
God - point up
Loved - place both hands over your heart
Enemies - hold up your fists like you’re ready to fight
We - point to yourself with both thumbs

Motions for the Verse:
I say - make your hand talk like a puppet
You - point to another person
Love - place your hands over your heart
Enemies - make a mean face and put up your fists
Pray -fold your hands in prayer
Persecute - punch your palm

Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
Who was trying to hurt David? (King Saul.)
What did David take from Saul while Saul was in the cave? (Cut off a piece of his robe.)
Why did David sneak and cut off a piece of Saul's robe? (To show that he was close enough to hurt Saul, but he didn't want to hurt him.)
What did Jesus say we're supposed to do to our enemies? (Love and pray for them.)
What did David take from Saul while he was sleeping? (His spear.)
Why did David sneak and take Saul's spear? (To show that he could have hurt Saul, but he didn't want to hurt him.)
After David let Saul escape two times without hurting him, what did Saul do? (Sent David on his way.)
Who were you and I enemies with and why? (God, because we sinned.)
How did God love his enemies? (Sent Jesus to die for their sins.)
What is today's big idea? (God loved his enemies and so should we!)

OT 55 Jonathan Helps David Escape


Reference: 1 Samuel 18-20

Big Idea: Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Verse: Leviticus 19:18b - ...but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Motions for the Big Idea:
Love - place both hands over your heart
Neighbor - pretend to put your arm around an imaginary person next to you.
Love - same as before
Yourself - point to yourself with both thumbs

You shall - point your finger acquisitively at someone else
Love - place both hands over your heart
Neighbor - pretend to place your arm around an imaginary “neighbor”
Yourself -  point to yourself with both thumbs
Eye - point to your eye
Lord - point up

What did Saul throw at David? // A spear
Who was David’s friend who helped him escape? // Jonathan
Who was David’s wife who helped him escape? // Michal
What did Michal do to trick Saul’s men into thinking David was sick in the bed? // Put a statue, some hair, and clothes on the bed.
What did Jonathan shoot to let David know that he needed to run away? // Arrows
How did the Bible say Jonathan loved David? // Like he loved himself
What did God do to show us he loved us? // Sent Jesus to die for our sins

Big Idea: Blessed are the ones whose sins are forgiven.

Verse: Psalm 32:1 - Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. (ESV)
