Reference: Acts 12
Story Summary:
Evil King Herod starting throwing the people of the church in prison. He even had some of them killed. Later, he had Peter, the leader of the apostles, thrown in prison. Herod had 16 soldiers keeping watch over Peter in prison.
The people of the church prayed that God would rescue Peter. One night, as Peter was sleeping, surrounded by guards, an angel from the Lord appeared to him. He told Peter to get up, get dressed, and follow him.
And Peter did. He followed the angel right past all the guards. Peter thought he must have been dreaming, but it was really happening. They came all the way to the city gate, which opened by itself, and Peter escaped. Suddenly, the angel disappeared.
Peter went to Mary's house, where the people were praying, and knocked on the door. A servant named Rhoda answered and recognized Peter's voice. She was so excited, she forgot to let Peter in. When she told the church Peter was there, they thought she was crazy! But when they went to the door, it was Peter!
All of them were amazed. Peter explained to the people of the church how God rescued him.
Big Idea and Motions: God loves us and hears our prayers.
God - point up
Loves - put both hands over your heart
Hears - cup your hands behind your ears
Prayers - fold your hands in prayer
Verse / Motions: James 5:13, ESV - Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
Anyone - point away from you with both index fingers
Suffering - hold out two fists
Pray - place your hands palms together
Anyone - point away from you with both index fingers
Cheerful - point to your cheeks and smile
Sing praise - place one hand over your heart and the other in the sky and sing these words
