Reference: Luke 2:8-20
Story Summary:
The night that Jesus was born, shepherds were in a field, watching their sheep at night. An angel appeared to them and God's glory shone around. The shepherds were terrified.
The angel came with a message: a savior had been born in the town of Bethlehem. This savior was the Christ, God's special savior. The angel told them how to find this child: he would be wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger, an animal's eating dish. Then a whole big group of angels appeared and began to praise God before returning to heaven.
The shepherds left to find out if the angel's news was true. They came to where Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were. And they found a child lying in a manger just like they were told.
The shepherds were so excited that they went around telling everyone what they had seen and heard. All the people who heard the news were amazed. And Jesus' mother Mary kept all these things like a secret treasure in her heart.

NT 39 Jesus on the Road to Emmaus
Reference: Luke 24:13-35
Story Summary:
Two of Jesus' disciples were walking to a place called Emmaus. As they were walking, Jesus appeared among them, but God kept the disciples from recognizing who he was.
As they walked, they told Jesus about the things that had happened in Jerusalem, about how Jesus had died, and about how some women had said he appeared to them. Jesus, of course, already knew about this since he was the person these things happened to.
As they walked, Jesus taught the two disciples that the Christ, God's special savior, had to suffer to save his people. He started from the first books of the Bible and taught all the way through the end of the Old Testament. As he taught, the two disciples' hearts burned inside them.
When they stopped, Jesus started to go on further. But the disciples begged Jesus to stay with them. As they ate together, God opened their eyes. They recognized Jesus and, just like that, Jesus disappeared before their eyes.
The two disciples ran back to Jerusalem totell the other disciples that they had seen the risen Lord.

NT 38B Thomas Doubts

Reference: Matthew 28, Luke 24
Story Summary:
On a Friday, Jesus was nailed to a cross and died. He was buried in a tomb closed with a large stone. Two guards were placed there to keep everyone out of Jesus’ tomb.

Story Summary:
After the last supper, Jesus and the disciples went to Gethsemane, a garden of olive trees. Jesus took three of his disciples, Peter, James, and John, and went further into the garden. "Keep watch," Jesus said, before going off to pray.

NT 33 The Last Supper and the Lord’s Supper
Reference: Matthew 26:17-29
Story Summary:
The night before Jesus died on the cross, he shared a meal with his disciples. We call it the "Last Supper" because it was the last meal Jesus ate before he died. At that meal, Jesus and his disciples shared bread and wine.
When Jesus gave them the bread to eat, Jesus said, "This is my body, which is given for you." When he gave them the wine to drink, he said, "This is my blood of the new covenant. It is poured out to forgive the sins of many." Jesus told the disciples to eat a meal in this special way regularly as a way to remember him.
And Jesus' disciples did just that. They came together and ate a meal they called the "Lord's Supper". At this meal, they ate bread. When they ate the bread, they remembered that Jesus gave his body for their sins when he suffered and died on the cross. When they drank the wine, they remembered that Jesus bled when he died on the cross for their sins.
When the disciples started new churches, they taught the people to eat the Lord's Supper, too. The believers in the churches ate bread and drank wine to remember Jesus' body and blood.
Big Idea and Motions: At the Lord’s Supper, we eat bread and drink wine to remember Jesus’ death.
Lord’s - point up
Supper - pretend to scoop food in your mouth with a spoon
Eat bread - pretend to bite a sandwich
Drink wine - pretend to drink from a glass

Eat this bread - pretend to eat a sandwich
Drink the cup - pretend to drink from a cup
Proclaim - cup your hands around your mouth
Death - cross your arms across your chest and bow your head
Comes - do a “come here” gesture with your arm

NT 05 Magi Visit Jesus
Reference: Matthew 2:1-12
Story Summary:
The magi were wise men from the east. They studied lots of things, including the stars. One day, they saw a special star God placed in the sky. They were certain that this meant a new king for the Jews had been born.
The magi followed this star to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews?” When evil King Herod heard about this, he asked the Bible experts where the Christ, the savior and king God had promised to send, would be born. They said, “In Bethlehem.” Herod told them to go and find the child. Herod secretly began planning how to get rid of him.
The magi followed the star until it stopped over a house. Inside, they found a child named Jesus and his mother, Mary. There they bowed down and worshipped him, and gave him expensive gifts for a king: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Later, God warned them in a dream to not return to Herod, but to go back home by a different route.
Big Idea and Motions: Jesus is the Christ: our Savior and our King!
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Christ - pretend to anoint your own head with oil
Savior - do the baseball “safe!” sign
King - pretend to put a crown on your head
Verse / Motions: Philippians 2:10-11, ESV - ...every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord...
Knee should bow - drop to your knees, then stand up
Heaven - reach up high and jump
Earth - reach down and pat the ground
Under the earth - pretend to dig with a shovel

Jesus - form a cross with your forearms

NT 03 The Birth of Jesus
Reference: Luke 2:1-7
Story Summary:
Caesar Augustus made a law requiring everyone to return to their hometown. They had to sign their name on a list so that they could be taxed.
So Joseph and Mary returned to Bethlehem, Joseph's hometown. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. Mary gave birth to a son. She named him Jesus, the name the angel had told her to give him.
Mary wrapped Jesus in swaddling cloths. Since there was no room for them to stay at the inn, she laid him in a manger, a box normally used to hold food for animals.

NT 31 The Triumphal Entry
Reference: Luke 19:28-40
Story Summary:
Jesus was headed to Jerusalem. He sent his disciples ahead of him to borrow a donkey for him to ride. When its owners wanted to know what they were doing, the disciples said what Jesus told them to say: "the Lord needs it."
As Jesus rode along, the people gave him a king's welcome. They spread coats on the ground before Jesus, waved palm branches, and shouted, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!" Many people thought that Jesus had come to defeat their enemies, the soldiers of Rome, and become their new king.
The Pharisees were there, upset that the crowd was praising Jesus. They told Jesus to tell them to stop, but Jesus would not do so.
Days later, the people were stopped cheering for Jesus because he wasn't the king they wanted. Instead, they cheered for his death. But that's exactly why Jesus had come: to die on the cross and rise again for sinners.
Big Idea: King Jesus came to save sinners.
King - place a “crown” on your head

NT 30 Jesus and the Children
Reference: Mark 10:13-16
Story Summary:
People began bringing their little children to Jesus. They wanted Jesus to place his hands on them and pray a prayer of blessing. Jesus' disciples gruffly sent the people away and told them to stop coming.
Jesus was upset with the disciples for doing this. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. God’s kingdom belongs to people like them. Anyone who will not receive God’s kingdom like a little child will never enter it."
We learn two things from what Jesus said. First, God's kingdom (living with God as our king and one day spending forever with him) isn't just for adults; it belongs to kids to. Second, we must become like children to enter God's kingdom. Just like a little child trusts their parents for everything, we need to trust in Jesus completely to be saved from our sins and enter God's kingdom.
Big Idea and Motions: Trust in God like a child trusts their parents.
Trust - pretend to grab a rope with two hands
God - point up
Kid - pretend to rock a baby
Parents - with your palm facing out, touch your thumb to your forehead, then your chin*
* This the ASL sign for “parents.” See a video demo here.
Verse / Motions: Proverbs 3:5, ESV - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Trust - pretend to grab a rope with two hands
Lord - point up
All - gesture your arms in a wide circle
Heart - hand over your heart
Do not - shake your head “no”
Lean - cross your arms and pretend to lean against something
Understanding - tap your temple
Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
What were parents bringing to Jesus? // Their little children
What did they want Jesus to do? // Place his hands on them and bless them
What did the disciples do? // Tell the parents and kids to go away
How did Jesus feel when the disciples sent the kids away? // Angry with them
What did Jesus say about the kids? // God’s kingdom belongs to them, we must become like one to enter God’s kingdom
What does “the kingdom of God” mean? // Living with God as our king forever in a new heaven and earth

NT 28 Jesus and Nicodemus
Reference: John 3:1-21
Story Summary:
A Pharisee named Nicodemus came to visit Jesus at night. Jesus told him, “No one can see God’s kingdom unless they are born again.” Nicodemus knew that a person can only be born one time, so he asked Jesus to explain what he meant.
Jesus told Nicodemus that he needed to be born of water and spirit to enter God’s kingdom. This means that we need to have our sins washed away and have our spirits made alive by Jesus if we ever want to enter God’s kingdom.
The Bible teaches us that we are all born dead in sin. Our bodies are alive, but our spirits are dead. Only God's Holy Spirit can make our spirits alive again. Then, we can turn from our sins, trust in Jesus, and enter God's kingdom, where one day we'll live with God forever!

Because our spirits - hover your hand in a circular motion above your chest
Are dead in sin - cross your arms over your chest and bow your head
To enter God’s kingdom - swing your arms and march in place
We must be born again - pretend to cradle a baby
Verse / Motions: John 3:3, ESV - Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Truly - fold your arms and nod your head
I say - make your hands talk like a puppet
Born again - pat your belly
Cannot - hold your palms out and shake your head “no”
See - pretend to look through binoculars
Kingdom of God - pretend to put on a crown, then point up

What must we do to be saved from our sins and enter God’s forever kingdom? // Believe in Jesus
What does it mean to be born again? // To have God make our spirits come alive so we can believe in Jesus

NT 27 The Wise and Foolish Builders
Reference: Matthew 7:24-27
Story Summary:
At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told a story about wise and foolish builders. The wise man built his house upon rock, while the fool built his on sand. When the storm came, the fool's house fell down, but the wise man's house was still standing.
Jesus said that one who hears his words and does them is a wise man. Someone who hears the words of Jesus and doesn't do them is a fool.
In Jesus' story, the storm reminds us of God's judgment. When our life is over, we'll have to stand before God and be judged for what we've done. The wise man, who hears the words of Jesus, repents of his sin, and believes in Jesus to save him will remain standing on this day of judgment, just like the wise man's house in the story.
But the fool, who heard Jesus' words but didn't believe in him, will fall on the day of judgment. He will be like the fool in Jesus' story, whose house fell with a great crash.
Big Idea and Motions: A wise person believes in Jesus and follows his commands.
Wise - tap your brain
Believes - pretend to grasp a rope in front of you with both hands
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Follows - march in place
Commands - pretend to open and read a Bible
Verse / Motions: John 3:16, ESV - For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
God - point up
Loved - put your hands over your heart
World - trace a large circle in the air with your hands
Gave - pretend to hold a box and give it away
Son - pretend to cradle a baby
Whoever - gesture your arms to both sides of you
Believes - pretend to grasp a rope in front of you with both hands
Him - point up
Perish - fold your arms over your chest in an X and bow your head
Eternal life - trace a ∞ symbol with your finger
Questions to Ask Throughout the Week

NT 25 The Lord's Prayer
Reference: Matthew 6:9-13
Story Summary:
Jesus gave his disciples a special prayer to pray. Many people call this prayer “The Lord’s Prayer.” It’s made up of seven parts: an opening and seven requests.
Jesus taught us to begin our prayers by calling God “our Father in heaven.” This reminds us that God loves and wants to take care of us.
Then Jesus gave us six things to ask for: that God’s name would be hallowed, or treated with special honor and respect; that God’s kingdom would come and the good news about Jesus would be believed; that God would be obeyed on earth as the angels obey him in heaven; that God would give us what our bodies need; that God would forgive our sins and help us forgive others; and that God would keep us from sinning and protect us from evil.
Verse and Motions: Matthew 6:9-13, ESV - Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Father in heaven - hug yourself, then point up
Hallowed be your name - Place your palms together, then close your eyes and bow your head
Your kingdom come -Pretend to place a crown on your head
Will be done - pretend to open a Bible (where we find God’s will)
Earth - pat the floor with your hands
Heaven- reach up high with both hands
Daily bread - Pretend to take a bite from a sandwich
Forgive us - hold one hand palm up; pretend to brush something off it with the fingertips of your other hand
Forgiven our debtors - gesture to others
Temptation - Pretend to take a cooke from a plate, then swat that hand with your other hand
But deliver us from evil - Pretend to reach down and help someone up (“deliver”), then two thumbs down
Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
Why is it called the Lord’s Prayer? (Because the Lord Jesus gave it to us to pray.)
What should we remember when we pray, “Our Father in heaven...”? (God is our Father and loves us.)
How many times do we ask God for things in the Lord’s prayer? (Six.)
What does “hallowed be your name” mean? (Father, help us and others treat your name with special honor.)
What does “your kingdom come” mean? (Father, help us and others believe the good news about Jesus and come into your kingdom.)
What does “your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” mean? (Father, help us obey you like the angels obey in heaven.)
What does “give us this day our daily bread” mean? (God, give us what we need for our bodies.)
What does “forgive our debts as we have also forgiven our debtors” mean? (God, forgive our sins and help those who have sinned against us.)

NT 24 Jesus Teaches About Praying
Reference: Matthew 6:5-8
Story Summary:
One day, Jesus taught his disciples about prayer, which is talking with God. He told them about something things they should do when they pray, as well as some things they should definitely not be doing.
First, he told them not to pray to be seen by others. Some people, like the Pharisees, loved to pray where others could see how holy and special they were. That's the kind of reward those people were looking for. Instead, Jesus told his disciples to go off and pray in secret because God the Father can hear what is said in secret.
Second, Jesus told them to not go babbling on and on when they pray. Some people thought God would only listen to them if they went on and on and on when they prayed. But Jesus taught that God isn’t impressed when we use lots and lots of words when we pray. In fact, he knows what we need even before we ask him.
Big Idea and Motions: Prayer is talking with God.
Prayer - bow your head and fold your hands
Talking - make your hand talk like a puppet
God - point up
Verse and Motions: James 5:13, ESV - Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
Anyone - point away from you with both index fingers
Suffering - hold out two fists
Pray - place your hands palms together
Anyone - point away from you with both index fingers
Cheerful - point to your cheeks and smile
Sing praise - place one hand over your heart and the other in the sky and sing these words
Questions to Ask Throughout the Week
What is prayer? (Talking with God.)
Why did some people love to pray in synagogue and street corners? (For others to see them.)
Instead of praying to be seen by others, what did Jesus say to do? (Go into your room and pray to God.)
Does God hear us when we’re praying alone? Why? (Yes, because God is everywhere and all-powerful.)
Why do some people use lots and lots of words when they pray? (They think God will hear them if they use many words.)
When does God know what we need? (Before we even ask.)
When should we pray? (At all times.)
Where can we pray? (Everywhere.)
What is today’s big idea? (Prayer is talking with God.)
What is today’s Bible verse? (James 5:13, ESV - Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.)

NT 23 Jesus and Zacchaeus
Reference: Luke 19:1-10
Story Summary:
When Jesus came to city of Jericho, a great crowd gathered to meet him. One of the people excited to see Jesus was a dirty, rotten, good-for-nothin' tax collector named Zacchaeus. But Zacchaeus was a short man. The only way he could see through the crowd was to climb up a sycamore tree.
Jesus saw Zacchaeus in the tree and said, "I'm coming to your house today." The crowd was amazed that Jesus was going to the house of a "sinner."
The Bible doesn't tell us what Jesus said to Zacchaeus at his house, but afterwards, Zacchaeus was a changed man. He gave half of his money to the poor and paid back the people he stole from four times the amount he took!
Why was Zacchaeus different? Because he repented of his sins and trusted in Jesus to save him. When he did this, God forgave all of his sins and made him a brand new person on the inside!
Big Idea and Motions: When Jesus saves us, he makes us into brand new people..
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Saves - make the baseball “safe!” sign
Us - two thumbs pointing to yourself
Brand new - cover your face with both hands
People - uncover your face and thrust your hands into the air in celebration
Verse / Motions: 2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Anyone - gesture your arms in a wide circle
Christ - form a cross with your forearms.
Creation - pretend to hammer a nail
Old has passed away - pretend to pick up a box from the floor and toss it over your shoulder
New has come - two thumbs up, then point to yourself with those two thumbs

NT 22B The Lost Coin, Sheep, and Son
Reference: Luke 15:1-24
Story Summary:
The Pharisees wanted to know why Jesus spent time with "sinners." To answer this question, Jesus told them three stories.
In the first story, a shepherd with 100 sheep lost one of them. He left the 99 behind and rescued the lost sheep. When he found it, he celebrated.
In the second story, a woman lost one of her 10 coins. She swept and searched for it. When she found it, she gathered her friends around and celebrated with them.
In the third story, a father lost one of his sons. His youngest son took his inheritance early and ran away, only to blow the money away on wild living. But when his son came back, the father was thrilled to have his lost son back.
Just like the shepherd, the woman, and the father celebrated when their lost things were found, God and the angels celebrate when a lost sinner is saved. Jesus spent time with sinners because he came to save them from sin!
Big Idea and Motions: Jesus came to find and rescue lost sinners.
Jesus - form a cross with your forearms
Find - pretend to look through binoculars
Rescue - pretend to reach down and help someone up
Sinners - two thumbs down
